What we make of this bottle
Paso Robles is a large growing area on California's Central Coast, in San Luis Obispo County, where warm, dry days give way to much cooler nights. This wine takes that name and the Cabernet Sauvignon grape, which grape research describes as a firmly built red, with black currant, plum and cherry among the common fruit references and noticeable tannin; how much of each shows up depends on ripeness, climate and the winemaking. The one regular price on record, in our August 2026 checks, was $19.88.
The score is the reason to slow down: 5 ratings put it at 2.8 on the store's five-point scale, which sits in the bottom band of the reds we track and well under the median of 4.71 across the 483 rated wines we follow. Who made it is the part we cannot confirm; the Simple Truth name is on the listing, but the producer behind this wine is not something we have verified.

What the name means
Paso Robles is a federally recognized American Viticultural Area in San Luis Obispo County on California's Central Coast. Eleven named districts divide the larger AVA.
How grapes grow here
Warm, dry summer days are followed by much cooler nights. The Templeton Gap and other openings in the Santa Lucia Range pull marine air inland, with the strength of that cooling changing from west to east.
What lies under the vines
More than 30 soil series occur in the AVA. Calcareous shale and other marine sedimentary rocks are important, alongside granite-derived, volcanic, sandy, loamy and clay-rich ground.
