What we make of this bottle
Malbec, the grape on this listing, is a red variety that began in France and is now the most widely planted wine grape in Argentina. Our record puts it as a Malbec from Chile, and the producer's own account now confirms the profile: Casillero del Diablo's Reserva Malbec draws its fruit from the Central Valley, under a Mediterranean climate carrying influence from the Andes. In our September 2026 checks, three stores carried it, the cheapest at $8.99, which is among the least expensive reds we track.

At the top end of those same September 2026 checks, one store had it at $14.99. Casillero del Diablo lists the Reserva Malbec on alluvial, rocky and stony soils, with a granitic subsoil on its hillside sites, and the same Reserva line structure that covers the brand's Cabernet Sauvignon covers this Malbec too: the brand's current site navigation shows no unqualified, non-Reserva Malbec alongside it. The producer's tasting notes describe plum and cherry aromas with light pepper and dark chocolate, a medium body and structured tannins, and the bottle carries a V-Label vegan certification, the producer says. It has drawn recognition from Descorchados 2021 for the 2020 vintage and from James Suckling for the 2019 vintage. Those are vintage-specific mentions, not a rating of the bottle on shelves now. The producer's page does not publish an alcohol percentage or the exact blend composition, so those numbers stay open.
Our call: buy it on the producer's account and the price: Casillero del Diablo confirms Central Valley fruit and an Andes-influenced climate behind the plum, cherry and dark chocolate profile, at one of the least expensive prices among the reds we track. Pass if the shopper crowd is your guide; the two ratings on record so far average well below the median of the wines we cover, an early reading, and the producer has not published an alcohol level or exact blend to round out the rest of the picture.
