Our take
What we make of this bottle
Provence sits in the far southeast of France, where summers are sunny and dry, and the Mistral wind can cool the exposed vineyards and lower the humidity. Rock Angel is a rose from that corner of the country. We do not have a shopper rating for this wine yet, and which grape varieties go into it we have not confirmed. If you are picking a rose for a particular table, the question is what stands behind this one.
The word Provence on a label names a region, not a recipe. Inside it sit several separate protected appellations, among them Cotes de Provence, Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence and Coteaux Varois en Provence, and the coast, the inland hills and the higher sites make wines that differ in real ways, so a fuller place name still matters. For this bottle, the confirmed origin is Provence, with anything narrower resting on the producer's own account. Chateau d'Esclans says the wine is made mainly from grapes grown at the chateau itself, with more fruit drawn from vineyards in the Esclans Valley and the nearby Cotes de Provence. The single price we observed in our August 2026 checks was $37.49. So before the next occasion arrives, ask one plain question: is this the afternoon for a Provence rose at that price, or would a less expensive bottle serve just as well?

What we are still checking
Our overview above draws on the dated store feed, shopper ratings, our region and grape research, and any sourced producer facts. We are still working to confirm the current release, the full producer record, and the bottle itself, and we update this page as we learn more.
Getting to know Provence.
A Provence label usually points toward one of several appellations rather than one recipe or landscape. Coast, inland hills and higher sites create meaningful differences, so the full appellation still matters.
What the name means
Provence is a broad wine region in southeastern France. Côtes de Provence, Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence and Coteaux Varois en Provence are separate protected appellations within it.
How grapes grow here
The region has a sunny Mediterranean climate with dry summers. The Mistral can lower humidity and cool exposed vineyards, while altitude and distance from the sea change local temperatures.
What lies under the vines
Western areas include more limestone, while crystalline rock is more common toward the coast and southeast. Clay, sand and gravel appear locally across the region.
How large the region is
- Côtes de Provence area
- The appellation reports about 20,300 hectares across 84 communes.
- Mapping rule
- Keep the exact appellation when the label supplies one. Provence alone is a broader regional reading.
Places within the region
- Côtes de Provence
- The largest of the main Provence appellations crosses several distinct vineyard sectors from the coast to inland hills.
- Other main appellations
- Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence and Coteaux Varois en Provence have their own boundaries and rules.
