Grape research describes Cabernet Sauvignon as a firmly built red, with black currant, plum and cherry among the common fruit references and noticeable tannin; ripeness, climate and winemaking can change how much of each shows up. In those same September 2026 checks the top price we recorded was $32.88, across five stores. As for who stands behind it, Hawkstone says its wines come from grapes grown in Napa County, California, and the brand is owned by WX Brands.

Hawkstone's own winemaking notes describe hand-harvested fruit taken through ten months of aging, with the wine's second, malolactic, fermentation happening in oak barrels and the tank pumped over three times a day to hold onto fruit and tannin; the producer's tasting note reaches for ripe berries, smoky oak, eucalyptus and a note of cassis. Decanter's independent review of the 2019 vintage, the most detailed technical account we found, put that year's wine at 97 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 3 percent Petite Sirah, 14.5 percent alcohol, and 40 percent new French oak barrels for 12 to 16 months, scoring it 90 points, with Linda Trott named as winemaker for that vintage; those figures describe the 2019 wine specifically, and we have not confirmed they carry over to the vintage on shelves now.

Our call: this fits a shopper who wants the Napa County name at a moderate price and does not weigh crowd ratings heavily; Hawkstone is upfront that WX Brands, a private-label house, stands behind the wine rather than a single estate, and an independent critic's review of a recent vintage scored it 90 points, a different read than our own shopper record.
