Unshackled Cabernet Sauvignon Red Wine by The Prisoner Wine Company

The odd thing here is not the wine so much as the ticket on it. In our September 2026 checks the same Cabernet went for as little as $19.99 at one store and as much as $32.99 at another. That is a wide swing for a single bottle, so if you want it, it is worth checking the price where you actually shop before you reach.

The Prisoner Wine Company says it works out of Napa Valley, California, and notes on its own site that Constellation Brands owns the label. Cabernet Sauvignon is the grape, which the official grape guides describe as a variety that tends to build firm, tannic reds. 7 shoppers have rated it. The average comes out to 4.71 out of five. Where the grapes themselves were grown, the producer's own site does answer, though its account shifts by vintage.

Unshackled is a newer line from The Prisoner Wine Company, launched nationally in January 2020 as a more accessible extension of the flagship Prisoner style, developed by Director of Winemaking Chrissy Wittmann and her team, according to parent company Constellation Brands' own launch announcement. The current product page for this bottle names Central Coast as the growing region for the 2023 vintage and lists a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc at 14.0 percent alcohol, with exact percentages not published. A separate listing on the same site for the prior 2022 vintage names Santa Ynez Valley instead, so the region the producer states depends on which year's bottle is on the shelf.

Our call: reach for it if a landmark Napa brand's more accessible second label appeals to you; Constellation's own launch account and Director of Winemaking Chrissy Wittmann's team back the wine, and the current release's product page names Central Coast fruit and a full six-grape blend, more detail than most bottles at this price disclose. Pass if you want one settled price to plan around; our August 2026 checks found this bottle priced far apart from store to store, and the producer's own account of where the grapes grow has shifted between the two vintages on its own site.
